1. Choosing a Topic

The first step towards completing your history fair is to choose a topic.

4th Grade

Fourth grade will be choosing topics from the A Land Remembered menu.  Topics include:

  • Favorite MacIvey (life, accomplishments, impact on the family)
  • Where important events from the book occurred
  • History of the Marshtackie
  • Florida Seminoles
  • Plants mentioned in A Land Remembered
  • Important people or events in Florida history

5th Grade

Fifth grade can choose a subject, event, or person that is important to U.S. history.

Think about a person, event, or specific subject you want to learn more about.  Make sure that your topic isn't too big.  For example, World War II is a HUGE subject that's probably too much for a single project, but the Battle of Midway or Pearl Harbor are specific events that took place during World War II which might work better.

So What?

Don't just describe what happened, a good history fair project explores the importance of a topic.  You need to ask yourself "So what?".  Why was this topic important? How did this topic affect people?  How is our world today different because of it?

Can't come up with a topic?  Check out some of the ideas below:

Once you've chosen a topic, it's time to move on to Researching Your Topic.
